Would you know what to do if someone’s seizure didn’t stop? In this video, we demonstrate the administration of emergency medication (Buccal Administration) for epilepsy when this forms part of the person’s prescribed emergency management plan. Emergency medication may be required when a person: • has a seizure lasting 5 minutes or longer, or • has repeated seizures that stop and start over a period of 30 minutes, where this is specified in their individual care plan. Knowing when to act, how to administer the prescribed medication safely, and when to call for emergency help can make a vital difference. Always follow the individual’s Seizure Management/Emergency Care Plan, the prescribed medication instructions, your organisation’s policy and your training. WORLD PATIENT SAFETY DAY 2026 Patient safety starts with all of us. This year, World Patient Safety Day focuses on safe care for people living with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), under the slogan: “Safe care for life!” Noncommunicable diseases include conditions such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory disease. They are often long-term conditions, meaning people may require treatment, monitoring and support throughout their lives. And that makes patient safety particularly important. Globally, 1 in 10 patients experiences harm during healthcare, and around half of that harm is considered preventable. For someone living with a long-term condition, repeated appointments, medications, treatments and interactions with different healthcare professionals can increase their exposure to potential harm over time.
